“The Rest of Paul’s Farewell from Miletus”

FOCUS

After last Sunday’s “Last Words, Loving Words & Life-Giving Words” message, it seemed fitting to finish the chapter from which that message came. For me, these final verses in Acts 20 form one of the most poignant passages in the entire Bible. They put Paul’s heart for God, others & ministry on display in a way that is tender & triumphant / comforting & convicting.

If serving God is anything, it’s everything. There can be no greater joy for us as those He made, knows & loves than to know who we are, why we’re here & what we’re to do.

Paul’s example of such a passionate, focused, intense, kingdom-furthering & completely transformed life should inspire & invite us to experience that kind of transformation as well. As it was for him so it will be for us … lots of joy & sorrow, beginnings & endings, heartache & hope, grace & mercy, power & love.

As Paul concludes his final words to the elders

from Ephesus, along with them he tells us …

1. a believer’s life story is filled with chapters written by God.

A new chapter can’t begin until the previous chapter comes to an end. / Acts 20:25-27

2. being a believer brings danger, opportunities & heartache

that accompany following Christ for the rest of our time on earth.

Our new life in Christ brings new battles, blessings & brokenness. / Acts 20:28-37

Making It Real

1] Do you see your life as the story it is unfolding chapter by chapter?

2] How are you doing processing the emotional rollercoaster you’re on?

Action Step

Look back over your life & your walk with God. Do your best to break them

down into chapters as you ponder the beginnings & endings you’ve experienced.
